Irkutsk State Medical University, Russia

IGMU was opened on August 26, 1919 in the form of a medical department at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Irkutsk State University. January 20, 1920 the medical department was separated into an independent educational and administrative unit – the medical faculty of the Irkutsk State University. At the medical faculty in 1921, the scientific medical Society was organized, in which besides the faculty members, practical doctors of the city and the region took part. In 1922, the Student Scientific Society named after II. Mechnikov under the guidance of AA professors. Melkikh, V.G. Shipacheva and O.I. Bronstein. Since 1923 began to publish Irkutsk Medical Journal .

In 1930, the People’s Commissariat of Education (Narkompros) transferred all medical departments and departments to the People’s Commissariat of Health (Narkomzdrav), and the Irkutsk State Medical Institute acquired an independent legal status. In 1992The Irkutsk State Medical Institute passed the state certification on the assessment of the quality of training of specialists, conducted by the State Inspection for the certification of educational institutions of the State Committee for Higher Education. According to the conclusion of the educational and methodological association for medical education, the university realizes the university principle of education. Thus, the whole complex of qualities and characteristics made possible the transition of the medical institute (in May 1995) to a new status – “university”.

In 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012 IGMU held regular comprehensive assessments of activities, attestation and state accreditation. As a result of the last of them IGMU was confirmed the status of the university. The certificate of state accreditation was issued by the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science. The Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science issued a license to conduct educational activities for the right to provide educational services for the implementation of educational programs by types of education, by levels of education, by occupation, specialization, training areas (for vocational education), by subspecies of additional education.

According to the order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 395-r of 23.03.2010, the university was reorganized by merging with the federal state institution of secondary vocational education “Irkutsk Medical College (technical school)”, with the subsequent formation of the Institute of Nursing Education on the basis of the attached separate structural unit.
