The Kyrgyz State Medical Institute (KSMA) was opened on 1 September 1939 in the city of Bishkek , Kyrgyzstan, with the recruitment of 200 students. Recently, the acadmy had celebrated it’s 70th anniversary as it entered new decade of activity. Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is one of the leading medical academies among all medical colleges in Kyrgyzstan.The establishment of the institute was contributed to by the First Moscow Medical Institute, high medical schools of Saint-Petersburg, Almaty, Tashkent and other medical institutions. They provided expertise and organizational assistance, medical guidelines and training books as well as faculty staff.
Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), FAIMER, IMED as well as by Medical Council of India (MCI). Students can appear for USMLE, PLAT, NZREX, etc. for further studies in countries like USA, UK, New Zealand, etc. KSMA conducts several joint programs with renowned universities around the globe and also has medical students exchange programs through which students can practice in other countries during vacations or when needed as directed by university.
More than 12,000 students are studying at the institute, including 1,735 students from countries such as India, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the United States, and Uzbekistan. In KSMA work 526 teachers, of which 86 professors and doctors of medical sciences, 315 candidates of medical sciences and docents.
Kyrgyz State Medical Academy has it’s hostels for accommodation of foreign students spread throughout the city. The students also get the opportunity to practice in several hospitals of city to gain useful expeience.
Students can continue their education in post-graduation in various specialties like surgery, therapy, neonatalogy, opthalmology, gynaecology, obstetrics, haematology, paediatrics, etc. The medical libragy of KSMA is one of the largest in whole of Kyrgyzstan comprising of more than 4,00,000 books and also having digital reading material in CD’s which provide suitable videos and illustrations too.
