Mordovian State University ‘N. P. Ogarev’ Medical Faculty, Russia

Medicine Institute is one of the leading departments of Mordovia State University in Mordovia – the largest educational, intellectual, scientific research and cultural center of Russia, largely determines the direction and pace of socio-economic, political and spiritual life of the region and country.

Faculty of Medicine opened July 1, 1967 by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the RSFSR № 42 dated January 17, 1967. Annual enrollment is 175 students in the specialty “General Medicine”. From the earliest days of the faculty are their own history and the oldest of the department – normal anatomy, normal physiology, histology, cytology and embryology. In 1969 he began teaching clinical subjects – propaedeutics internal medicine, general surgery and other bases for the teaching of clinical disciplines and the creation of clinical departments and courses became the largest hospital of the city and country.

Mordovian State University is the leading university in the Volga Region. Mordovian State University is the center of higher education, science and culture of the Republic of Mordovia. The University is located in the central part of Russian Federation, 620 km  away from Moscow. Mordovian State University has 2 branches, 28 buildings, 12 dormitories, which are home to 4,800 people, in which 3320 are students, including 50 graduate students, and 544 families of university staff. Training in Mordovian State University is conducted in 89 specialties in 11 faculties and 7 institutes. There are 33 bachelor and 12 master’s degree programs in Mordovian State University.To improve the quality of higher education in the autonomous region of Mordovia, in 1931 the  Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation created Mordovia Agro-Pedagogical Institute , the first higher education institution in Mordovia. In 1932 Mordovia Agro-Pedagogical Institute transformed into Mordovia State Pedagogical Institute (Moscow State Pedagogical Institute). In 1938 Mordovia Pedagogical Institute named after Russian poet Alexander Ivanovich Polezhaeva who was a native of Mordovia land. On 2 October 1957 Mordovia State Pedagogical Institute named after AI Polezhaeva and renamed into MordoviaStateUniversity. In 1967 university opened the Medical Faculty. in 1969 of the faculties of Economics, Foreign Languages was established. In 1978 the University established the Faculty of Law. Since 1989 Mordovia State University is working with foreign students. Today Mordovian State University has 89 departments and 1151 skilled teaching staff.  Till now the Mordovia State University has trained over 22000 people from 57 regions of Russia and Europe, Asia, Africa and America. From last 10 years the number of foreign students ahs increased by 10 times. In 2014 Mordovia State University enrolled more than 600 foreign nationals from Abkhazia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Hungary, Vietnam, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, India, Jordan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan , Lebanon, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Sri Lanka.

Students’ Science is one of the priorities of the institute. Its diverse forms: participation in scientific circles in the theoretical and clinical departments, publication of scientific articles, making presentations at international and Russian scientific meetings, conferences, university-wide “Ogarevo reading” and young scientists, development and protection of research papers. Traditionally, medical students are actively involved in the All-Russia competitions of scientific works, and in 2004, rated a student’s science department took the 4th place among all the medical schools of the country and a place among the medical schools of the Volga. Young scientists and physicians published scientific almanac “Medical foundation of life in normal and pathological experiment”, which annex to the journal “Bulletin of the University of Mordovia.”
