The University of South Alabama Health System helps people lead longer, better lives through its excellence in education, research and medical care. With more than 3,600 employees, the USA Health System network includes USA Medical Center, USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital, USA Mitchell Cancer Institute, USA Physicians Group and the USA College of Medicine. Each year, our team of 180 physicians, 240 residents and fellows, 70 advanced practice providers, and 800 nurses handle some 185,000 clinic visits and 350,000 outpatient procedures. The USA Health System delivers 2,800 babies a year, more than any other regional hospital, and treats patients through some 60,000 emergency room visits annually.

As an academic health center, the USA Health System provides advanced and innovative patient care through its University hospitals and clinics, as well as first-class training experiences for the next generation of physicians and scientists. In doing so, the USA Health System has a significant positive impact on the quality of life for all residents across the Gulf Coast both directly and indirectly.

The College of Medicine is an expanding network designed to provide all facets of medical education, research and patient care. The College strives to create an environment conducive to learning and research in all fields of human biology and health care, permitting both students and faculty to maximize their potential. Scholarly endeavor, intellectual curiosity, and the extension of new knowledge by faculty and students are essential components of such an environment. The graduate studies program is a unit of the Graduate School of the University of South Alabama. Academic and professional standards are comparable to those of other leading medical schools in the United States. The College is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The Medical Center offers “the highest level of care” to the central Gulf Coast with unique services including Mobile’s only Level I Trauma Center and the Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center, plus centers of excellence in stroke care and cardiovascular diseases, and a wide range of acute care services. The College of Medicine is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The College offers two degree programs. The MD program is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The PhD program in Basic Medical Sciences is one of the doctoral programs in the University of South Alabama Graduate School. Residency and fellowship programs in the USA Health system are affiliated with the College and are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
