Yangzhou University (YZU) is co-sponsored by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Education, a key comprehensive university of Jiangsu Province, as well as one of the first among colleges and universities authorized to grant master and doctoral degrees, pioneering in China in the merging of higher educational institutions. YZU was established in 1992 as a merger of 6 colleges in Yangzhou, while the history of YZU can be traced back to as early as 1902, when Mr. Zhang Jian, a renowned modern entrepreneur and educator, set up the Tongzhou Private Teachers’ School and Tonghai Agricultural School.

There are over 33,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 10,000 postgraduate students on YZU campuses, over 1,000 of whom are international students. Among the 2,100 full-time teachers of YZU there are 2 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The 27 colleges offer 116 undergraduate programs. YZU has 14 postdoctoral mobile stations, 11 first-level doctoral programs and 44 first-level master’s programs, among which are 3 state key disciplines.

College of Medicine, Yangzhou University (YZU) was founded in 1950. It is among the first batch of colleges across the country to establish the major of gynecology and obstetrics, and enroll undergraduates in the field of combined Chinese-Western medicine. It is also the only college setting up the major of clinical prevention and curing of dermatitis and venereal disease (VD). Since 1989, it is designated by the Ministry of Public Health as the base for cultivating professionals in preventing and curing dermatitis and VD, and by the Ministry of Justice as the base for cultivating professionals in penological medicine and restoring the mental health of criminals.

Under the college are established some 4- or 5-year undergraduate programs such as clinical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, combined Chinese-Western medicine, basic nursing science, and pharmacy. Within clinical medicine, especially gynecology and obstetrics, dermatitis and VD are our characteristic majors. In 2006, the first oversea students were enrolled. For them, all courses are taught in English. There are 13 MA programs: anatomy and organ embryology, physiology, immunology, pathology and physiopathology, pharmacology, internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, prevention and curing of dermatitis and VD, medical imaging and nuclear medicine, traditional Chinese pharmacology, Basic of Combined Chinese-Western medicine and Western Medicine, Clinical Science of Combined Chinese-Western medicines.

Among them, combined Chinese-Western medicine has been granted the right to confer Ph.D. degree. At present more than 2,100 students are engaged in general education, and over 2,900 in adult education.

Five departments are established in our college, respectively clinical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, basic nursing science, pharmacy, and basic medical sciences. Also established are teaching and experiment center of basic medical sciences and clinical medicine, 33 teaching and research divisions. The college also includes 8 affiliated hospitals, such as Subei People’s Hospital of Jiangsu Province, Yangzhou No.1 People’s Hospital, etc.

The Yangzhou University Library was established by the merger of the original six college libraries in September 1998. Currently, there are three book centers in Yangzijin Campus, Hehuachi Campus, and Slender West Lake Campus. The Office is equipped with offices for the construction of document resources, and the system And digitization department, science and technology search workstation, information consultation and teaching research department, ancient books special collection department, readers working department.

There are 157 employees in the library, with a building area of ​​75,400 square meters and 8053 seats. By the end of 2015, it had 3.495 million paper-based books, more than 100,000 ancient books, and nearly 3,000 Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals. There are 2,567,600 electronic books, 79,000 e-journals, and 76 Chinese and foreign text databases.
