Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) – Center of Education, Science and Culture of highly industrial region of Ukraine,Dnieper. The city of Dnepropetrovsk is is the main Industrial city of Ukraine.Above than 40% industry of Ukraine is loacted in Dnipropetrovsk. It is known as the business city of Ukraine.The city is highly developed and well established in all aspects of life. Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) is one of the oldest higher educational institution of Ukraine having 4th (the highest) level of accrediation in Ukraine.

Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) was founded on September 15, 1916 on the basis of Ekaterynoslavsky higher female courses Institute. Institute acquired the status of State Academy in 1920 and it was confirmed again to Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) in Ukraine in 1994 by th order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 224 dated 20 April 1994.

Foundation and the establishment of the Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) was led by eminent scientists with world-known names, such as VP Karpov, Oleg S.Abrazhanov, O. Drzhevetsky, L. Gromashevsky, L.S. Halperin, M.F. Rudnev, G.F. Tsomakion, N.S. Kakhiani, M.S. Stanishevskaya, M.O. Kabanov, O.I. Talyantsev, I. Troitsky, S.M. Kompaneets, M.V. Donici, AV Padlewski etc.

Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) is having the highest (the 4th) level of accrediation among all universities of Ukraine. In 1922 the Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) organized and edited two scientific medical journal: “Ekaterynoslavsky Medical Journal” and “New Surgical Archive”. When the Academy created a single scientific society that was theoretical, surgical, therapeutic, orthopedic, trauma and pediatric sections.

Academy has 7 faculties (first, second and third medical, stomatological, first and second international and postgraduate education faculties), where more than 4500 students and up to 1500 foreign citizens from 48 countries study.

697 teachers (among them 115 science doctors and 375 phylosophy doctors, 1 academician and 3 corresponding members of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, 1 corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) help to master extremely difficult, responsible but infinitely grateful specialty at 7 faculties of medical academy (three faculties of general medicine, dentistry, two international and post-graduate studies faculties).

41 clinical departments were founded on the basis of 58 medical institutions. Generally, 29 specialized centers were created in clinical bases of the Academy.Academy occupies 85 hectares area. It has 8 educational buildings with total area 52000 sq. meters, which includes 608 lecture rooms, classes and laboratories. Over 2849 students and doctors reside in 7 hostels with total area 46000 sq. meters. Academy has its own sports complex, sports camp, vivarium, scientific library, technological center and two museums.Postgraduate training is carried out at the postgraduate education faculty by prominent scientists, high category doctors, that include 19 professors and 58 associate professors.

The academy provides accommodation for students in the hostels. In total DMA has 7 comfortable hostels located in different regions of the city, which are connected by advanced transport structure (bus, tramway and trolley-bus). The hostels have total area of 45422 sq. m. and can accommodate 2768 students. The hostel buildings are of a modern block type and consist of the rooms for 2-3 students with all the necessary conveniences. All rooms are well-organized and furnished with a bed, a desk and a chair, provided with cold and hot running water, central heating, Internet access and suitable lighting for both study and relaxation. The territory of the hostels is protected and patrolled by officers of guard service. In the hostel each room is attached to the kitchen suitable for students to cook food .

At present 4500 students are studying in Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA), among them are 700 students from 36 countries are getting training in different specialities, among them mostly students are from Jordan, Syria, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Palestine, China, Morocco, Lebanon, Kenya, Ghana and others.

Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) conducts training of foreign nationals since 1990. In 1995 the Academy graduated the first batch of foreign physicians. For 10 years, Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) trained more than 1000 foreign specialists from 30 countries of the world.
