Together with the University Medical Centre Mannheim, our faculty forms the Universitäts Medizin Mannheim – UMM. It was created in 1964 as second medical faculty of Heidelberg University. Originally it had a purely clinical focus but in 2006, the Medical Faculty Mannheim was transformed into a comprehensive medical faculty covering both pre-clinical and clinical training. It now offers an innovative curriculum for medical students from year one – which is known as MareCuM.
Research activities at our Medical Faulty Mannheim are primarily focussed on four thematic areas: Oncology, Neuronal Plasticity, Vascular Medicine and Medical Technology.
Their faculty offers four interdisciplinary study courses leading to a Master of Science (MSc) degree. The accredited programmes are taught in English and have a modular structure and credit point system (based on the European Credit Transfer System – or ECTS). As a result, the programmes are compatible within the European framework for higher education and internationally recognized. Depending on the programme, full time and/or part time students are accepted.
The University Medical Centre Mannheim has epitomized interdisciplinary state-of-the-art medical treatment in Germany for over 200 years. Each year over 250 000 outpatients and hospitalized patients receive medical treatment and care from their 4 800 employees.
Around 1 400 students are continually being educated at the Medical Faculty Mannheim, part of Heidelberg University.
