Hunan Medical University is established in 1914 . The school was founded in 1914 as Hsing-ya Medical College by the Yale-China Association and the Hunan Yu-qun Society. It was was renamed National Medical College 1940 and Hunan Medical College in 1953. Hunan Medical University merged with two other universities to form Central South University in April 2000; the medical school was renamed Xiangya School of Medicine. The university should not be confused with Hunan Medical College, which offers a 3-year non-degree medical program.
