Hunan University of Chinese Medicine is established in 1960.The school was founded in 1934, when the name of Hunan Traditional Chinese Medicine College, in 1960 changed to a common higher colleges of Hunan Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hunan University of Science and Technology in 1990 as the original institution incorporated in Hunan Medical University, Hunan Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute in 2002 and CHINESE medicine merger, approved by the Ministry of Education in 2006 changed its name to Hunan University of Traditional Chinese medicine. In 2012 the school enrollment to enter a sequence.

The existing school Hanpu, Dongtang two campuses, with a total area of 1000 acres, the building area of 470,000 square meters. The schools actively carry out international exchanges and cooperation, expand the external development space. I school for the National TCM colleges and universities in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign students enrolled in the first batch of units approved in 2009 for the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in international cooperation base. Existing membership in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese students and 373 students. China Hunan International Acupuncture Training Center located in our school, has trained more than a thousand participants, more than 30 countries and regions. Since 1990, the school has repeatedly send experts and professors to go to more than 20 countries and regions abroad visit the United Kingdom, and sent several medical teams to go to Russia and other countries prevent and cure diseases. Teaching and scientific research cooperation with American New England College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Central University of Canada, University of Hong Kong, Macau University of Science and Technology, Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Japan Aoba Sapporo. We have cooperated with Malaysian Lincoln University to develop overseas cooperative education programs, the first overseas cooperative education project. Approved in 2014 with the Korean Wonkwang University to build the Confucius Institute.
