Institute of critical care medicine was founded on April 20, 1992 as the International Centre of Catastrophes and Critical Care Medicine.
Since March 26, 1996 it functions as Critical Care Medicine Institute. The Institute was granted accreditation (decision #2-19/284) by protocol #18 of February 7, 2005 of the Accreditation Board of the Tertiary Educational Institutions of Georgia.
Main directions of Institute’s activities comprise: training of medical personnel, scientific research, medical practice, and publishing periodicals.
The Institute is a provider of all existing insurance companies that are operating in Georgia, the institute’s services are used by insurance companies that are operating in Caucasus region and are based in the USA The Institute is a clinical base for Department of Critical Care Medicine at the Tbilisi State Medical University. The institute is the base of the “Georgian Association of Disaster and Critical Care Medicine,” that is the member of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) and the members of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM ), as well as national member of “Global Alliance against Sepsis”. The Institute also serves as a basic structural unit of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Georgia. In the Institute there are following services: Critical medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Hemodialysis, Rehabilitation Medicine, Diagnostics and other services. The Institute introduces internationally recognized diagnostic and treatment methods in medicine area, some of which were designed and patented in the same facility. In the institute there are treated patients that are in different condition and are needed in several profile care whit this the patients that are in critical condition are sent from different hospitals of Georgia and the world (France, Russia, Azerbaijan, and other).
For today the institute is ready to be involved in collaboration with different county representatives in these directions. Practical medicine: All profile patients with all kind of heavy conditions (Critical patients, Neurology, Cardiology, Internal medicine, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology, Oncology and other) can be treated in the institute and with this they can be operated by (General Surgery, Neurosurgery , Cardio surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, Oncology and other) high quality surgeons and anesthesiologists. Also the institute can help to create and manage optimal structures for best suites of the needs of patient flow of the region and material educational bases that is on the place modernization for getting more high efficiency from existing medical structures is the field of the institution working for collaboration process too. Inverting Georgian language guidelines and protocols in other countries medical structures, for introduction the best way for treatment of the patient of any profile with adequate understanding of the needs of changes of medical structure treatment methods, specialized medical teams or individual specialists short or long trips for different countries to work in the medical areas for maintaining the highest level of knowledge of other countries working style.
