Jinggangshan University Medical School, China

Jinggangshan University was established in 1958 in Ji’an. Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong and his colleagues established the first rural base of the revolution in the Jinggangshan Mountains in 1927.In, 1963, JGSU was closed for five years due to poor economic conditions in China. In 1978, to reinstate JGSU, the Branch of Jiangxi Normal University and the Jiangxi Medical University in Jinggangshan were joined together. In April 1982 and March 1993, they were renamed to ‘Jinggangshan Teacher’s College’ and ‘Jinggangshan Medical School”, respectively. In March 2000, after approval by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (MOE), Jinggangshan Teacher’s College was renamed to Jinggangshan University after merging with Ji’an Educational Institute. In July 2003, approved once again by the MOE, Jinggangshan Normal University was renamed to Jinggangshan University by joining Jinggangshan Medicine College and Jinggangshan Vocational Technical College.

Jinggangshan University, located in the city centre of Ji’an Municipality, currently has 18,000 full-time registered students, including 331 oversea students. Meanwhile, it has enrolled more than 10,000 adult students. Up till now JGSU has produced nearly 100,000 graduates working in all walks of life.

Jinggangshan University has a reasonably structured high-quality faculty team. At present, JGSU has a faculty of nearly 1600 people, including 129 professors, 409 associate professors. Among the faculty are 154 teachers with doctoral degree, 69 doctorate candidates, and 611 with master’s degree. JGSU is composed of 21 schools and offers 75 undergraduate majors covering 11 main disciplines (i.e. Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Agronomy, Medicine, Management, Arts).

Jinggangshan University has constructed 8 key research bases, including 1 Ministry of Education Key Research Institute for Humanities & Social Science in Universities (i.e. Centre for Studies of CPC Revolutionary Spirit & Culture Resources), 1 cooperative research base (i.e. Branch Centre of Jinggangshan University, Cooperative Research Center on Evidence-based Medicine (EBM) by Ministry of Education in China), 2 province-level Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Science (i.e. Centre for Jinggangshan Spirit Studies and Centre for Luling Culture Studies), 1 province-level postgraduate education and innovation base(i.e. Education Centre for Master of Social Work), 2 provincial key laboratories (i.e. the Coordination Chemistry Laboratory and Laboratory of Biological Diversity and Ecological Engineering) and 1 key laboratories supported by Jiangxi Education Department

The Medical School of Jinggangshan  possesses a Level 3A graded affiliated hospital, the Jinggangshan University Affiliated Hospital, which consists of 35 medical departments and sections with a capacity of 522 sick beds.

The medical school is listed in WHO, FAIMER, the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research (GFMER), For INDIA also,as well as the AVICENNA Directory for medicine.
