KIST Medical College, Nepal

KIST Medical College (KISTMC) established in the year 2006 is affiliated with Institute Of Medicine (IOM) under Tribhuvan University (TU) in the Kathmandu Valley. The college is at a distance of around 3 km. from the historic Patan Durbar square with its majestic architecture and around 6 km. from the Tribhuvan International Airport – the only international airport of the country.

The College runs a 300 bedded hospital equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and every modern facility. The college also has well equipped lecture halls, seminar rooms and basic medical science practical laboratories as per the norms of Nepal Medical Council (NMC).

The aim of KISTMC is to be a reputed medical college both at the national and international level by bringing together the best of the curriculum in a serene academic environment through the dedicated professional services of competent and committed faculty and staff.

At present, the college and the teaching hospital are functioning from three main buildings. These are the Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) block, the Teaching Hospital block and the OPD and Administrative block.
The college offers comfortable twin sharing and four seater residential accommodations in the Integrated Basic Sciences (IBMS) block for around forty students.

There are separate accommodation for boys and girls. Male students are strictly prohibited from going to the female students’ rooms and vice versa. The consumption of alcohol, and other intoxicating substances is strictly prohibited and if discovered may lead to expulsion from the hostel and the institution.There is a canteen in the ground floor of the IBMS Block.

The college library has all the required text books and reference books required for the MBBS and BDS courses. Online resources, CD-ROMs and DVDs are also available in the college library. Over 3000 textbooks, reference books and other categories of books are available. The college subscribes to a number of national and international journals and online access to over 3500 journals is available through online databases.

The college strongly believes in creating a good academic environment. Four teacher’s training programs have been conducted till date for faculty members. Faculty members from renowned universities like Harvard University, University of British Columbia and Universiti Sains Malaysia have visited the institution and shared their experience with our faculty members and students. The college conducts a Medical Humanities module, ‘Sparshanam’ which has been highly appreciated in Nepal and abroad. Faculty members have participated as resource persons in various conferences and workshops both within and outside the country.

Candidates who have passed I.Sc., class XII examination of the 10+2 system, or its equivalent Higher Secondary Council, with Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English as their major subjects and obtained at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology separately are eligible to apply for the entrance examination.

Eligible candidates must face the competitive entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Medicine (IoM), Tribhuvan University; and must secure a minimum of 50% of marks in the entrance examination for getting admission in the MBBS Program of the KIST Medical College.
