Nepalese Army Institute of Health Services (NAIHS) came into existence to fulfill the growing need and demand to improve the health care system of the Nepalese Army Medical Corps (NAMC). All these could be possible with NAMC’s very own institute of medicine with prominent and competent medical professionals and experts. Nepalese Army Institute of Health Services was established in 2010 as a nonprofit and service-oriented institution with a medical college and nursing college under its operation. It is located at Bhandarkhal, Sanobharyang in Kathmandu and has proposed for a medical polytechnic school and a dental college in the near future.

The fact that medical education is so expensive that it cannot be afforded by many qualified students who are financially backwards, hence, NAIHS has been offering quality and international standard education in the field of medical and health sciences to the candidates from the army families as well as the civil candidates at a very affordable price. The main objective of the NAIHS is to produce competent and qualified health professionals by offering quality education, who will dedicate themselves in serving the country and take Nepal to a progressive phase.

The Shree Birendra Hospital at Chhauni is assigned to look after the above programs at NAIHS, which is also the main hospital under the NAIHS. NAMC is planning to further add a 450-bedded general complex in the very near future. Nepal Army Medical Corps(NAMC) has vast experience of running hospital since last 80 years. SBH is the main teaching hospital of NAIHS. This hospital is commanded by a separate commandant directly under Director General of Medical Services of Nepal Army Headquarters.All the clinical departments and most of the ancillary units are located at SBH.

Nepalese Army Institute of Health Services has actively been involved in many humanitarian works and activities for the better health care and welfare of the people and has been working to expand their work in creating sustainable growth and development in terms of medical education and health services. The NAIHS provides free medical services to army personnel and their dependants who are on the service. Apart from that, they have been providing paramount services to the general in times of casualties and calamities such as internal conflict, earthquake, flood, landslides etc.

Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS) College of Medicine is currently running Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) program under the affiliation of Tribhuvan University. The intake of students in MBBS Program is 150 (one hundred and Fifty ) only.

The intake of students in the MBBS program is solely based on the merit list of the entrance examination conducted by Institute of Medicine.
