Transilvania University of Brasov Faculty of Medicine, Romania

TRANSILVANIA University of Braşov is an accredited higher-education public institution. Its history began in 1948, when the Forestry Institute was established at Brașov. Since then, the institution has continuously developed, currently being the largest and the best reputed university in the region, consisting of 18 faculties, over 20.000 students and 788 academic staff members.

Currently the university has 18 faculties, offering academic degree programmes in a wide range of fields, developing research and providing lifelong learning programmes based on the societal request.

The Faculty of Medicine,part of the Transilvania University of Brasov,was established by the Government  and accredited by the GovernmentDecision No. 410/2002.
Three undergraduate degree programmes (Medicine, General Nursing, and Physical – kinetic – therapy) and three master degree programmes (Management of Nossocomial Infections, Preventive and Public Health Strategies and Management and Palliative Care Strategies) currently operate in the Faculty of Medicine.

The mission of the Faculty of Medicin and of the study programmess is teaching and research. Teaching mission consists in the formation of General Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and Physical-KineticTherapists, able to satisfy the health care and health promotion needs, as required by the national and European standards. The research mission of the Faculty of Medicine from Transilvania University of Brasov is to to develop research projects and programmes within the objectives of national and international scientific research in the medical field.

The Central Library has been present in the university life of Brasov ever since 1948, year of its establishment. The first nucleus, outcome of the unification between the Commercial Academy Library and the Institute of Mechanics Library, in 1953, was completed with the Forestry Institute Library.

Transilvania University Library of Brasov operates as department of the University, with specific structures of services, offices and workrooms, which ensure the documentary and informational basis, necessary for the education and research process, it enhances and disseminates the information, it facilitates the diversified and rapid access to all categories of sources, it organizes adequate library services for all categories of users.

The students are accommodated in two campuses, Memorandumului and Colina Universitatii, with a capacity of 4400 places. The dormitories are renovated and well equipped. The facilities include internet access in the halls of residence, University Library and Colina buildings; two Student refectories, in both campuses, with 1000 places; university library; medical services; three sports halls and arenas; multifunctional recreational centre; Norbert Detaye Mediateque.
