With its origin traced back to Hubei Provincial Medical College in 1943, Wuhan University School of Medicine changed its name to Hubei Medical College in 1953 and Hubei Medical University in 1993, and was finally renamed as Wuhan University School of Medicine (WUSM) in 2000.

WUSM consists of School of Basic Medical Science, First School of Clinical Medicine, Second School of Clinical Medicine, School of Stomatology, School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, HOPE Nursing School, Vocational and Technical College, Animal Biosafety Level-III Laboratory, Medical Research Institute, 3 affiliated hospitals: Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Hospital of Stomatology Wuhan University; and 11 non-directly affiliated hospitals. Abundant majors are provided for medical students, including Clinical Medicine (five-year, “5+3”, eight-year), Stomatology Medicine (five-year, “5+3”, eight-year), Preventive Medicine, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biopharmacy, Nursing, Global Health and Basic Medical Science etc. At present, WUSM has 6594 registered students in total, among which 2229 are undergraduates, 464 are seven-year students, 546 are eight-year students, 2032 are master’s candidates, 561 are doctoral candidates, and 652 are international students.
Wuhan University School of Medicine lays emphasis on students cultivation of creation, innovation , enterpreneurial traits. We encourage undergraduates to take part in research and innovation training programs. Many innovative and enterpreneurial programs get support by the country and Wuhan University each year. Undergraduate Enterpreneurial Team won 1 Gold Award and 1 Silver Award of the “Challenge Cup”. 2 dissertations have been rated as National Excellent 100 Doctoral Dissertation.
